Fourth grader Fen has worked feverishly to conceal his dyslexia, relying on his wit and charm to get through life. Suddenly whisked from his Indiana elementary school to 1778 by a character in his history book, 

Fen aids and accompanies George Rogers Clark on a seemingly impossible expedition during the Revolutionary War. While learning historical facts, Fen discovers even more about himself, and realizes that maybe his dyslexia is more of a gift than the disability he had always thought.
